Liberec Town Hall

The Liberec Town Hall is the symbol of the city located in the Central Square, the Náměstí Dr Edvarda Beneše Square. Designed by the Viennese architect Franz Neumann the Town Hall follows the Neo-Renaissance style of architecture and has similarities to the Vienna Town Hall. The building has three towers facing the town square, with the tallest middle tower at 65 meters tall; originally, a copper statue of the Knight Roland, the defender of the city’s rights, adorned the central tower.However, in 1952 this was replaced with a red star and again removed in 1989. In 2005 a replica of The Knight Roland was again placed in its rightful place.

Ještěd Tower

Undoubtedly the Ještěd Tower is thy most famous landmark in the region. Situated on top of the Ještěd Mountain, it overlooks the city and much of the surrounding area. The Ještěd Tower has unique architecture and has received status as a national cultural monument. Built initially as a radio and television transmission tower between 1966 and 1973, it now accommodates visitors by housing a hotel and restaurant.

Novina Railway Viaduct

Located in the Kryštofovo Údolí (Christopher’s Valley), the Novina Railway Viaduct is the most beautiful in Czechia and is still operational. The viaduct comprises 14 arches made from granite stones from the Liberec region and stands 636ft off the ground. The Kryštofovo Údolí valley and village is a protected area with around 400 inhabitants; it is also home to Kryštofovo Údolí astronomical clock and Novina station.

Best Time To Visit Liberec

The best time to visit Liberec is between May to September, which experience moderate temperatures.

Mid December to Mid March Liberec becomes a popular skiing destination with residents and tourists visiting the Ski Resort Ještěd.

Temperatures are at their finest in August and September, this two months have high temperatures, longest sunshine hours and lowest rainfall.

Temperatures in Liberec start dropping from October and this lasts till March, with the heaviest snowfall expected in January.
